My Writing Life

This is my writing life!

When I actually finished the first draft of my novel:
stephen cobert

But then realized that it’s time to edit:
Tina Fey

When I know I have to edit, and after giving myself a pep talk, I open the first chapter and I know I should be doing this:

James Caan in Misery

But, wind up doing this:

Ed Norton

Or this:
Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean Captain Jack Sparrow

When I have a great new plot idea for my next book:
Jonah Hill

But then I realize that I actually have to finish editing the first one:
Ian Somerhalder

I know that once I finally get my first novel completely edited and ready to be presentable, I’ll be like:

And then I’ll start my search for an agent, starting out smug, as if I’ve done the best writing ┬áin the world:
the office steve carrel

After more than a few rejections:

OMG! I LOVE these posts! How clever! I have no idea how to do that – get the tiniest clip to echo what you’re thinking. Fabulous! Sharing!

    • GK Adams

      Creativity. I haz it. Sometimes.

  • Janine Huldie

Another great one by you Gina. I am so stuck in the editing part and truly feel like this every time I do a bit more of editing on my novel, so I can truly relate, plus I have an idea for a new book, but need to finish the first one. So yes this post truly spoke to me!!

    • GK Adams

Awesome! I love it when one of my posts reaches out to someone. Anyone.

  • Terrye

lmao! I’m thinking this new style is working for ya. But…what about when you tell funny dog stories? :) *click*

    • GK Adams

Yeah, I like it. Takes a lot of creativity. The only downside is that it doesn’t show my writing ability (or lack thereof).

  • Corinne Rodrigues

Absolutely hilarious, Gina! :) Good luck with the books!

    • GK Adams

Thank you, Corinne. Glad you stopped by and I will check out your blog.

Hahahaha!! So funny! That’s exactly how I’ve been feeling lately…well, a few of those anyway. I finished my first draft, but have decided to scrap it and start again. I have more ideas and a better understanding of where I want to go. Plus, writing 80 000 words in 28 days in November was insane. I did a good job, but I think I really want to pace myself and try and get in as much colour, etc so that there’s not so much editing. Which I know there will be. Great post, loved it.

    • GK Adams

Editing is harder than writing the first draft. 80,000 words in 28 days is a lot. Congrats on that!

A great blog and I now look forward to following you on here.

    • GK Adams

Welcome and thank you! Glad you stopped by and will be back.

  • Katia

I have no idea how to use those either, but I love it. This is one of the most memorable posts I’ve read/watched. Love it! :-)

    • GK Adams

Awesome! So glad you stopped by and hope you come back!

  • Deb

Great blog! loved the film clips.

    • GK Adams

      Appreciate it, Deb!

  • Emily

I love these…I have no idea how you even load moving photos like that b/c I’m technically inept. I’m even more impressed how you found the exact perfect photos! Great job and thanks for another laugh.

    • GK Adams

Thanks, Emily…I appreciate you being a daily reader.

  • Stacy Harris

Oh man… I am in editing phase right now… and I find myself totally running away. But I have to say… I am trying to force myself to do it by taking it one chapter a day. And then I will go through and make my fixes! Can’t I just pass it off to someone else! LOL

    • GK Adams

It’s not easy, that’s for sure!

  • Heather O.

Love this! That is EXACTLY how I feel! Lots of ideas but I can’t work on those until I finish editing the book I started for NaNoWriMo. Otherwise I’ll get too far behind and never finish that one… you know how it goes!

    • GK Adams

      All too familiar, unfortunately.

  • Rachel Harper

Amazing once again. Too funny Gina!

    • GK Adams

      Thanks, Rachel!

  • Rich Rumple

Funny, truthful and quite clever … “By jove, I think you’ve got it!” Great job!

    • GK Adams

I had a blast putting the post together! Thank you!

  • Phil

I love these types of posts that convey a story through gifs that make me laugh! Fun stuff!

  • Phil Holtberg

Love these posts that tell a story with funny gifs!

    • GK Adams

      They are fun to do!

  • William Kendall

I suspect I’ve frequently got the confused Captain Jack look coming over my features…

    • GK Adams

      Me too!
